《正式》ごめんなさい《◆小さな過失・無礼をわびる時の言い方. 強調して I do beg your pardon. とも言う. (I'm) sorry. より丁寧. くだけた表現では Pardon. と略すこともある. 《米》ではExcuse me. / Pardon me. ともいう》.

ごめん【御免】

1 〔謝罪の言葉･訪問や辞去などの時の挨拶で〕

●ごめんなさい[ください] ⇒ごめんなさい, ごめんください.

●〔座をはずす時〕 ちょっとごめんを. Excuse me (for) a minute.

●お先にごめん. Excuse my going first [ahead].

・遅れてごめん. Sorry to be late.

・ごめん, ごめん, 約束をすっかり忘れてた. Sorry, sorry, I forgot all about our date.

・ごめんね, 一緒に行けなくなっちゃった. I'm sorry. It turns out I can't go with you.

2 〔拒絶の言葉〕

●ごめんを被る ＝ごめんこうむる.

●それだけはごめんだ. I'm going to have to pass on that one.

・おれはまっぴらごめんだね. Not me(, thank you)! | Not on your life!

・お説教はごめんだ. Spare me the lecture(, will you?).

・君の代わりはごめんだ. Don't ask me to change places with you!

・残業はごめんです. I'm not willing to work overtime.

・お世辞はごめんだよ. 本当のところを言ってくれ. I don't want to hear flattery. Tell me what you really think.

・酒はもうごめんだ. 〔懲りた〕 I'm through with sake. | I'm off sake for good.

・テロも戦争もごめんだ. I've had it with terrorism and war.

・退屈な講義に付き合うのは[お前の愚痴は]もうごめんだ. I've had enough of sitting in boring lectures [your complaints].

3 〔許可〕 permission; leave; 〔免許〕 license; 〔免職･解職〕 dismissal; discharge.

●いつになったらお役御免にしてもらえるのかなあ. When am I going to be reprieved from this work?

・事故の責任を問われてお役御免になった. He was held responsible for the accident and dismissed.

●天下御免の licensed; approved; (officially) recognized

・帯刀御免の商人 a merchant specially privileged to wear a sword.
